Question 1

What is the difficulty level of the 'Road of Sirius' trek, and what physical fitness is required to participate?

Accepted Answer

The 'Road of Sirius' is rated as advanced difficulty, covering 83 kilometers with an accumulated ascent of over 5000 meters, crossing six mountain passes ranging from 3150m to 3828m. Participants need excellent physical fitness, extensive outdoor trekking experience, and good acclimatization to high altitudes. We recommend systematic physical training, such as long-distance weighted hikes and endurance running, before departure to prepare for multi-day trekking and high-altitude conditions. Please consult your doctor to ensure your physical condition is suitable for high-intensity outdoor activities.

Question 2

What safety measures are in place for trekking in uninhabited areas? What are the qualifications of the team leader, and how are emergencies handled?

Accepted Answer

Your safety is our top priority. We provide experienced professional leaders who are familiar with the Tianshan geography and possess high-altitude first aid, wilderness survival, and crisis management skills. You will trek light, with your heavy luggage transported by horses. Public equipment includes emergency communication devices (satellite phones), first-aid kits, and professional outdoor cooking gear. We also provide professional outdoor accident insurance for every participant. In case of an emergency, the leader will activate an emergency plan based on the situation, including satellite phone calls for assistance, nearest evacuation, or on-site first aid measures, to ensure your safety.

Question 3

What are the accommodation and dining arrangements during the trek? Are there options for special dietary needs?

Accepted Answer

In Urumqi, you will stay in comfortable hotels. Once in the uninhabited area, accommodation will be in tunnel tents at high-altitude camps, with each person provided a single egg-crate sleeping pad to ensure a relatively comfortable rest in the wilderness. For dining, we arrange meals at specialty restaurants in the city. In the wilderness camps, we provide hearty breakfasts and dinners, with convenient packed lunches for midday. Our camp meals aim for nutritional balance and local flavors. If you have vegetarian, allergy, or other special dietary requirements, please inform us in advance when booking, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Question 4

What personal equipment do I need to prepare? Is equipment rental available?

Accepted Answer

You will need to prepare professional equipment suitable for high-altitude trekking, including but not limited to: high-top waterproof hiking boots, hardshell jacket and pants, warm clothing (down jacket/fleece), quick-drying shirts and pants, trekking poles, headlamp, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), personal toiletries, common medications, and personal eating utensils. We provide public equipment such as 150L duffel bags, tunnel tents, camp tents, egg-crate sleeping pads, and cooking gear. Currently, we do not offer personal equipment rental services. We recommend you prepare all necessary personal equipment in advance to ensure a comfortable and safe journey.

Question 5

What is the best season to trek the 'Road of Sirius'? What happens if we encounter bad weather?

Accepted Answer

The best season for the 'Road of Sirius' trek is typically summer (July to August), when temperatures are relatively mild, snow and ice have melted, and the scenery is most spectacular. However, Tianshan weather is unpredictable; even in summer, you might encounter showers, temperature drops, or even snow. Our leaders will closely monitor weather forecasts and adjust the itinerary as needed to ensure safety. In case of extreme bad weather, for your safety, the leader has the right to suspend, alter, or cancel parts of the itinerary. Any additional costs incurred may need to be borne by the participants, but we will strive to minimize the impact.

Question 6

Can I join if I'm traveling alone? Is there a single supplement fee?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! We warmly welcome solo travelers to join the 'Road of Sirius' expedition. This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded friends and enjoy the outdoors through teamwork. For hotel accommodation in Urumqi, we will try to arrange same-gender room sharing. If room sharing is not possible or you prefer a single room throughout the trip, a single supplement fee will apply. Accommodation in the uninhabited area camps is in tunnel tents, usually shared by multiple people, so there is no single supplement issue there.

Question 7

What are the booking and cancellation/change policies?

Accepted Answer

To ensure your trip runs smoothly, we recommend booking as early as possible. Regarding cancellation and change policies, typically, cancellations made within a certain number of days before the activity start date will incur a varying percentage of penalty fees as per the agreement. For example, cancellations more than 30 days before departure may receive a full refund; 15-30 days before departure, a 20% fee might be charged; 7-15 days before departure, a 50% fee might be charged; and cancellations within 7 days before departure might not be eligible for a refund. Specific policies may vary based on group size and booking time, so please read the contract terms carefully upon registration. For rescheduling, please contact us in advance to discuss, and we will do our best to assist you.
